Women’s professional soccer is coming back to Washington this spring and summer in the form of the Washington Spirit, one of eight teams in the newly formed National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). And playing on the back line will be Kika Toulouse, returning to DC after a year on the Swedish professional team Ragsveds, Kika is a 2010 graduate of the University of Virignia, a member of the U-23 Women’s National Team, and six time Virginia State Cup Champion with two different BRYC squads. Welcome back to the women, and especially to "the Kikanator"!
After opening on the road against the Boston Breakers on April 14, the Spirit will open their NWSL home season on Saturday, April 20 at 7:00 PM at the Maryland Soccerplex vs. the Western New York Flash, the first of four consecutive Saturday night home games. But if you can’t wait, you can catch them in action in five home "friendlies" vs. the women of Penn State University on March 17, Duke on March 24, North Carolina on March 30, Maryland on April 3 (at UMD) and Virginia on April 6. Nothing like playing last year’s finalists for the NCAA collegiate title in tune-ups!Tickets for those five matches are FREE but must obtained through the ticket portal on the Spirit web site.
